Phrenik

While San Diego's veteran DJ/Producer Phrenik made his mark on the Southern California electronic music scene primarily through drum and bass, unbeknownst to many, his influence and impact reaches much further. His well-received and heavily downloaded “System Check Mix Series” has delved into genres as far and wide as electro and trance. While his latest mix, the third installment on the ever popular Simplify Mix Series, Phrenik journeys through the many realms of dubstep while sticking to his dnb roots as well. Varied and versatile, with both high-energy performances and critically acclaimed productions acting as his calling cards, Phrenik’s position as a major player in the world of EDM has been surely secured.

Long a staple on the SoCal scene, Phrenik's popularity grew nationally and internationally through his long-running show onDrumnBassTV.com, "The Resistance", which he hosted for 5 years. In 2009, Phrenik's reputation as a respected producer was solidified with his well-received dubstep remix of Rihanna's Disturbia. His follow up single Take Me Away, released as a free download by Sub Pressure Recordings, has received downloads numbered in the thousands, hitting home with fans of the melodic dubstep subgenre.

As of late, his studio credibility has grown further when he teamed up with renowned vocalist Jillian Ann to create their breakthrough dubstep hit ‘Set It Off’ which broke the Beatport top 100 within its first week of release on Simplify Recordings, not to mention also climbing to #1 in all-time label downloads for the site. This melodic banger combines gritty synth fanfare and a driving bass line along Jillian’s haunting vocals, giving the tune an aggressively urgent, yet upbeat, feel. Surely one of this year’s most notable releases.

2011 marks a busy time for Phrenik including a number of remixes, collaborations and releases scheduled for various labels including Simplify, Heavy Artillery, Rogue Dubs, Bombeatz Music and Sub Pressure Recordings to name a few. With such varied and quality productions on such a wide variety of fronts, and such a buzz around his upcoming releases, it’s no doubt Phrenik truly has arrived in the world of dubstep and drum and bass.
