OPEN SOURCE REBELLION
A few years ago a now defunct band named Black Diamond Love went into the studio to record their first LP. They had an artist development arrangement with Westlake studios and through Westlake they were paired up with a young engineer (Erock) who had been an apprentice to Al Machera - one of the two owners of that studio.
During this production Erock and Dela became close friends and worked together on the eight or so songs that BDL was recording. Around March or April of 2009 Dela decided that it was best to leave BDL and I went off on his own to develop a new sound.
Dela was really captivated by the new Electro sound that was coming out of Europe - particularly French DJs Justice and Italian DJs The Bloody Beetroots. He wanted to combine those nasty synths with the Desert Rock sound of Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age. He setup a new studio in Silverlake and got to work.
A few months later he met back up with Erock and showed him demos of several songs including Venus and Take a Chance. The two made a pact to work together on a new Electro/Rock/Future-Pop sort of sound. Influences from bands like Does it Offend You Yeah?, Justice, Death From Above 1979, NIN... would be fused with sound from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Refused, Muse, Foo Fighters, ... and since they also really really loved a lot of old bands like Pink Floyd, Jimmy Hendrix, and T-Rex... they planned to fuse all that together into something that was really fun.
To quote Dela, "We love music and we really just want to kick out the jams. I think we've learned a lot from DJ's... DJ's are there to keep the party going, to keep everybody dancing and rockin out, their mission is to ensure everyone is having a good time. If we can come close to that while still being a raw live rock band we'll be very happy."
